Saint Kevin School was established in 1959 by Fr. Raymond Murphy along with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The school has grown and flourished since then, featuring a Pre-School Program for three and four-year-olds, full and half-day Kindergarten classes, and a Middle School for grades 6, 7, and 8. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Our teachers are degreed, and most are certified in their specialty areas. They are dedicated professionals who work diligently in providing the best academic programs within nurturing, Christian environments. Rev. David E. Green and Rev. Przemyslaw Lepak provide the spiritual guidance of all in their ministry of St. Kevin Parish and School. They are committed to Catholic education and foster its growth and development working cooperatively with the principal, Mr. Roger Parent. Saint Kevin School follows the curriculum requirements of the R.I. Department of Education and the Diocese of Providence. Students have art, music, computers and physical education/health on a weekly basis. In addition, we provide opportunities for student enrichment such as Spanish in grades 5-8; and Algebra I for gifted math students. For those students who need some assistance, resource and tutoring are available. Our Middle School program offers the core academic subjects within an environment that encourages academic excellence and the development of character and responsibility. It features an advisor-advisee program, which fosters a sense of community and commitment to the beliefs and values of the Catholic Church. Middle School activities/programs include but are not limited to: educational field trips or speakers, and Clubs such as newspaper, drama, yearbook, and computer. Students participate and compete in Providence Journal-sponsored activities such as The Stock Market Game and Reading Week. They also take part in competitions such as the Spelling Bee, and the R.I. State Science Fair. We celebrate our Catholic traditions as a community at First Wednesday liturgies, Advent and Lenten prayer services; reciting the Rosary and taking part in community service projects, making sure we attend to the needs of the spiritually and physically poor. |
